As a project for 2010, Chloé is sourcing photographs to represent life in the North of England. This was inspired by the Mass Observation of 1937 which began in Bolton.
Chloé was drawn to the stylish bohemian part of Manchester’s city Centre while living nearby. The antique appearance of Café Centro drawing mystery around itself. Apotheca is a recent addition to the Northern Quarter and has a fabulous art deco design element. The ambiance at the bar is something Chloé wanted to capture in her painting. Northern flower shop, being only a little further down the road to Café Centro provides a more feminine aspect. With it’s little flower pots and crates outside it has a slightly rustic feel whilst being in the heart of the city.
Manchester’s Victoria Station is currently a station in need of restoration, but before that happened Chloé wanted to capture some of the aspects of the station which might in the future be lost. The paintings have a nostalgic air to them with the golden tones and smoky presence.
Victoria Baths is Manchester’s beautiful Water Palace which was enjoyed by the people of Manchester from 1906. Chloé was drawn to paint this beautiful building as it is rich in design and memories, something which Chloé wanted to capture. Victoria Baths was the winner of the BBC 2’s ‘Restoration’ programme in 1993. Although the winner of this prize, to restore the building, there is more money which needs to be raised to support the campaign.
10% of all proceeds for sales of Chloé’s Victoria Baths paintings go towards that campaign. http://www.victoriabaths.org.uk
